Now that December has arrived, I have really been getting into the festive spirit. I have started buying/making some of G and I’s favourite Christmas treats but realised the majority of them were unsuitable for BLW! As Freddie is almost ten months old, he can eat most things however I am very conscious of his salt/sugar intake. I thought it would be fun to make/find a few, BLW friendly treats that babies can enjoy over the festive period. My previous weaning posts have been really popular and Christmas baking is too exciting not to post about! And, because Christmas can be stressful, I have snuck in a very easy cocktail recipe for you too!
These little muffins are made without butter/sugar, are sweetened with agave syrup, fresh apple and include a blend of festive spices. The house smelt utterly amazing when they were in the oven and I was surprised at how yummy they were. Even for the adults who are used to cakes containing sugar!
You will need:
- 2 1/2 grated apples
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup greek yogurt
- 1/3 cup olive oil
- 1/3 agave syrup (or golden syrup)
- 2 cups self-raising flour
- 1 tsp Ginger
- 1 tsp Cinammon
- 1/2 tsp Nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp All Spice
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
Add the wet ingredients to a bowl and mix. Combine with the flour and then add the apple, syrup, vanilla extract and spices. Pop the mix into a pre-greased muffin tray and cook for around 20-30 minutes at 180 degrees until the muffins are golden. A quick way to see if they are done is to pop a knife into one of the muffins. If it comes out clean then they are done!
CRANBERRY & ORANGE SMOOTHIE
You will need:
- Two frozen bananas
- Small handful of cranberries
- 1 heaped tablespoon of Greek Yogurt
- Juice of half an orange
- 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
Simply blend the ingredients together and volia! I also strained the mixture to remove the bits. Smoothies can be a bit thick for a normal sippy cup, so I served these to Freddie in these *Duralex Glasses. They are the perfect size for tiny hands and made of tempered glass which is impact and chip resistant. They would also make perfect mini cocktail glasses for adults too! Freddie can drink from a straw but didn’t need to with these as he could hold the glass with a little bit of help.
EASY PEASY PEACH BELLINI (FOR THE MAMA’S)
You will need:
- Peach Puree Pouch
- Frozen Cranberries
- Pinch of Sugar
Rather than messing around blending peaches, grab a pouch of peach puree and pop it into the bottom of a glass (or a copper mug if like me, you like that sort of thing!). Top with champagne and add a pinch of sugar. I used frozen cranberries to keep it chilled without watering it down. This is so easy and you could do the same thing with any other fruit pouch- the possibilities are endless.
ELLA’S KITCHEN JINGLE BELLY CHRISTMAS DINNER
Ella’s Kitchen have brought out the perfect pouch for the festive period. *Jingle Belly Christmas Dinner is packed full of festive favourites including brussel sprouts, turkey and all the trimmings. Perfect for on the go! This is a pouch with a conscience, for every pouch purchased Ella’s Kitchen will donate 30p to Save The Children’s ‘Eat, Sleep, Learn, Play’ programme. The programme offers vital help to low income UK families providing essential household items. As we are doing mainly BLW, I like to serve pouches as a dip alongside pitta bread/toast fingers. They are also great when Freddie is teething and doesn’t want to eat solid food!
I really hope this post got you in the festive mood and if you are currently doing BLW, gave you a bit of inspiration. Although Christmas is a magical time it can be really stressful too, so don’t forget to unwind using the easy cocktail recipe!
Thanks for reading and see you on Wednesday,
* Ella’s Kitchen and Duralex kindly gifted the above products for this post. As always, this does not effect my views/opinions.
