Weaning posts always seem to be well-received and so today I am sharing my top five weaning hacks. Watching your baby exploring new foods and textures is so much fun but planning and cooking three meals a day (plus snacks!) can be tricky.
Anything that makes our lives easier is a winner so I hope the hacks below save you some time!
BE CREATIVE WITH POUCHES
We do mainly baby-led weaning but I still love incorporating pouches when I need an easy dinner. There are so many different ways you can use them when weaning, especially vegetable based ones (Babease are my favourite!). Use them as pasta sauce, add an egg and some self raising flour to make savoury pancakes or even use as a dipping sauce on the side.
This is something I have started doing recently and it has made my life so much easier! I bought some mini bags and when I buy a packet of snacks for Freddie like rice cakes or puffs, I portion them up into the bags. That way, I can easily throw them into a bag if we are going out or grab them if Freddie is hangry and needs a snack quickly! It is a life-changer. Also stops them going stale!
INVEST IN A MAT/HIGHCHAIR INSERT
I was contacted by Messy Me Designs to review two of their lovely products, the Splash Mat and the Highchair Insert. We have been trying out the products for a couple of weeks now and I love them. The prints are beautifully neutral which makes such a difference from many garish baby products and they are super easy to clean. Just wipe over with a cloth and that’s it! The mat has saved our carpet because like most babies, Freddie loves to throw his food on the floor! It is really big which is great for snack time and keeping food contained. The insert is really soft and unlike the Ikea equivalent, can be wiped clean. It has also prevented Freddie from being able to stand up in his highchair so that is an added bonus!
IF IN DOUBT, MICROWAVE IT!
I use the microwave for a lot of Freddie’s vegetables now because it is so quick and easy. Freddie’s favourite are microwaved sweet potato chunks. Simply dice, pop in a bowl, add olive oil and seasoning of your choosing and microwave for around four minutes. I also love buying the mini packs of microwave veg from M&S. They are great for lazy meals!
MAKE USE OF YOUR FREEZER
Keeping a few bits and bobs in the freezer means that I always have something on hand. I like to keep some chunky fish fingers on hand, portions of vegetable pasta sauce and frozen tortellini. Whenever I have a bit of baby free time, I like to make a big batch of either chilli or spaghetti bolognaise and freeze this too!
I hope you find these tips helpful, if you have a favourite weaning tip or hack I would love to know. If you enjoyed this post then you may also like ‘What My Baby Eats In A Week’.

*Messy Me very kindly gifted us the mat and the insert. This is not a sponsored post and as always, this is my honest opinion of the products.
