BABY-LED WEANING | WHAT MY BABY EATS IN A WEEK

I have posted quite a few times about our weaning journey so far. Weaning can be such a minefield and when you are already trying to juggle everything else motherhood entails, thinking of new meal ideas can become a bit of a chore.

Below is a week of Freddie’s meals (from last Friday to today), which I hope might give you some inspiration if you are in need of some fresh ideas! Freddie is almost eleven months and so we almost exclusively do baby-led weaning but I also spoon feed Freddie things like Chilli, Spaghetti Bolognese and soup. The key is not to stress to much about which approach to follow, just do whatever works for you and your baby.

FREDDIE’S TEN MONTH UPDATE | HIS FIRST WORD

Freddie’s tenth month has been a complete whirlwind. We have had lots of lovely moments including Freddie’s first word which was so special. Unfortunately Freddie has also struggled with teething and I was unlucky enough to catch two bugs in one week! He is now wearing size 12-18 month clothing because he is super duper long. Besides the teething, Freddie’s tenth month has been a lot of fun and with the run up to Christmas everything feels that bit more magical.

BLW | FESTIVE BABY TREATS (& ONE FOR THE MAMA’S!)

Now that December has arrived, I have really been getting into the festive spirit. I have started buying/making some of G and I’s favourite Christmas treats but realised the majority of them were unsuitable for BLW! As Freddie is almost ten months old, he can eat most things however I am very conscious of his salt/sugar intake. I thought it would be fun to make/find a few, BLW friendly treats that babies can enjoy over the festive period. My previous weaning posts have been really popular and Christmas baking is too exciting not to post about! And, because Christmas can be stressful, I have snuck in a very easy cocktail recipe for you too!

baby boy in grey pom pom hat, Nine month update. sleep regression

Just three months until Freddie turns one which is a little too much for my heart to handle. This month was very challenging with Freddie going through his sixth leap. The leap started with an explosion of new skills and it was obvious that he was going through something developmentally because of how rapidly he was learning. Unfortunately, this also made Freddie cranky, easily upset and very restless at night. It also coincided with the peak of some serious separation anxiety, a chesty cough and a pretty bad bout of teething too. All in all, this month has been a bit of a rollercoaster. Whilst it has been fascinating to see Freddie learning so many new skills, the crankiness, nap refusing and sleepless nights have been really tough. However, the last couple of days Freddie has seemed a lot more settled and much happier so I am really hoping things are on the up!

When Freddie began to show a preference towards a more baby-led approach to weaning, I was keen to gather as many quick recipe ideas as possible. One tip that has worked really well so far is adapting easy lunches that I would have eaten pre-baby to suit Freddie. Since having him, I have become much more conscious about the ingredients in the foods I buy (particularly the salt/sugar content). Breads and cakes in particular tend to have far more salt than the one gram recommended for babies of Freddie’s age and a Bread Maker is on my Christmas Wishlist for that reason (well and the fact that there is nothing yummier than the smell of fresh bread!). Making sure Freddie eats a wide range of vegetables during weaning is really important to me but so far he has taken after his Mama and is a bit of a carb-lover! This recipe includes a very sneaky veg sauce which reassures me that he is getting all of the nutrition that he needs.
